Canals and links to canal sites.

This is a list of canals which I have listed in my bookmarks. There are pictures taken at a couple of restoration sites. These are at the Drungewick Lane bridge contruction site on the Wey & Arun Canal and the Wendover Arm of the Grand Union at Little Tring.

Note that these and many of the sites listed are pictorial, so downloads may be long!

Of particular interest is the restoration of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. This is being carried out within a work programme lasting about eighteen months and involves some major civil engineering at three principle locations, namely Staylybridge, Slaithwaite and Huddersfield. Restoration of the three mile long Standedge Tunnel has also been carried out under this restoration programme. Progress on this work has received excellent coverage on the Pennine Waterways website, which has been updated weekly.

In case visitors to the site wonder what waterwheel engineering has to do with canals, the reason is that the remains of a waterwheel can be found on the Wey & Arun canal. There is also a waterwheel on the Kennet & Avon canal and no doubt there are others.
